An open letter to the Minister of Agriculture Dr Edwin Dikoloti

Greetings to you Sir and i hope this letter finds you in good health in this difficult times

*Drill the boreholes for those who already have land so that they can have access to water in order to start production .

*We also plead with you to work closely with the Minster of lands to speed up the process of allocating land to those who want to venture in agriculture.

Sir it is very worrying that we are still dependent mostly on diamonds as a country to sustain our economy .For the past years we have being talking about diversifying our economy and up to now we have not been able to do that.

Corona proved that our dependency on the export of diamonds mostly to sustain our economy was not good for our country .Even the tourism sector which contributes significantly to our economy was also affected negatively which leaves the country in a very difficult situation.

Sir i believe that agriculture is one sector which can help diversify the economy of our country provided the leadership of the country is willing to invest so much in it.A lot of us are more than willing to venture in agriculture but the problem is we dont have land and capital which are factors of production.

We plead with your ministry sir to consider subsidizing the drilling of boreholes for those who already have land so that they can have access to water in order to start production .We also plead with you to work closely with the Minster of lands to speed up the process of allocating land to those who want to venture in agriculture.

We have to understand that investing in agriculture will create jobs for thousands of youths roaming in the streets,it will help reduce our import bill but increase our export.

We were forced to open our boarders in the middle of a pendemic because of dependency on South Africa for food stuffs.

It is very sad that as a country we still import basic commodities like tomatoes and potatoes .These are things that we could be producing locally to feed our markets.

I believe as a nation we learnt a lot of lessons from this corona pendemic ,especially on the dangers of depending on imports and depending only on a few sectors to support the economy.

We have very capable people within our country ,some of them who are graduates from universities such as Buan who are more than willing to help the government in diversifying the economy and being self sufficient. We plead with you to constanly engage with the youth and get ideas from them ,this will make your job easier as you will have a clear picture of what needs to be done

I have written this letter not in any way undermining your leadership but in the true spirit of patriotism and love for my country.

Thank you

Bibo kevin Prince Gaothusi
